Mastering Dropsets: When and how to use them
Let’s talk about dropsets!
Dropsets involve performing an exercise with a certain weight until you reach muscle fatigue, then immediately reducing the weight and continuing the exercise until you reach fatigue again. This process can be repeated multiple times, "dropping" the weight each set. Here’s a simple example:
Start with a weight you can lift for about 8-10 reps.
Perform the exercise until you can’t do any more reps with good form.
Reduce the weight by 20-30% and continue the exercise until you reach fatigue again.
Repeat this process for 2-3 more drops.
When to Use Dropsets?
Dropsets are an advanced technique, so they’re best used once you have a solid foundation of strength training. Here’s when and why you might incorporate dropsets into your routine:
Breaking Plateaus: If you’ve hit a plateau and your progress has stalled, dropsets can help push your muscles beyond their usual limits, promoting new growth and strength.
Building Muscle Endurance: Dropsets can increase your muscle endurance by forcing your muscles to work longer under tension.
Finishing Your Workout Strong: They’re great for the final set of an exercise, ensuring your muscles are fully fatigued.
Adding Variety: Dropsets can add variety to your workouts, making them more interesting and challenging.
