Why Rest Days Are When You Get Stronger
Here’s something that feels backwards—but is 100% true:
Your muscles grow when you’re recovering, not when you’re lifting.
Training creates the stimulus.
Recovery creates the adaptation.
If you’re not resting enough, you’re:
Interrupting muscle repair
Lowering testosterone
Elevating stress hormones
Increasing injury risk
Train hard. Recover harder. That’s how men over 40 stay jacked and pain-free.

Recovery Reminder:
If You’re Always Sore, You’re Probably Underperforming
Soreness is not a badge of honor.
If you’re constantly sore, chances are you’re:
Not eating enough
Not sleeping enough
Not spacing out your lifts smartly
Aim to feel ready for each session—not wrecked from the last one.

Question from Our Readers:
“Should I work out if I’m still sore from my last session?”
– Eli, 50, from New York
If you’re lightly sore—yes. Just warm up well and keep your form tight.
If you’re deeply sore and struggling with mobility, take a rest day or do active recovery (walking, stretching, mobility work).
Remember:
Progress doesn’t come from crushing yourself. It comes from stacking recoverable workouts.
Fit Trivia: Which 80s fitness film featured a neon-lit gym, a dramatic love triangle, and a non-stop montage of high-intensity aerobics?

Answer: Perfect (1985)! Starring John Travolta and Jamie Lee Curtis, Perfect captured the flashy, pulse-pounding world of 80s gym culture—complete with dance cardio, romantic drama, and some of the most intense pelvic-thrusting scenes ever filmed in Lycra. Truly iconic.
