Why “Eating Clean” Isn’t Enough After 40
One of the most common things men tell me is:
“I eat pretty clean… but nothing’s happening.”
The problem isn’t food quality.
It’s the food quantity.
You can eat all whole foods and still be in a calorie surplus. Olive oil, nuts, avocado, rice, and even “healthy” snacks add up fast, especially as metabolism slows slightly with age.
After 40, results come from structure, not just intention. That means understanding portions, protein targets, and overall calorie ranges. Clean eating is a great foundation, but without boundaries, it rarely leads to consistent fat loss.
Clean food + structure = results.
Clean food alone = frustration.

Did You Know?: Stress Can Stall Fat Loss More Than Food
Most people think fat loss is just about diet and workouts.
But chronic stress can quietly shut progress down.
High stress levels can:
Increase cravings
Disrupt sleep
Raise cortisol, which promotes fat storage
Reduce recovery from training
That’s why some men “do everything right” and still stall.
Managing stress doesn’t mean meditating for an hour a day. Sometimes it’s as simple as better sleep, daily walks, or dialing training intensity back slightly.
Fat loss doesn’t happen in chaos.
It happens when the system is calm enough to respond.

Question from Our Readers
“Why am I hungrier now than when I started?”
— Rob, 45, from Minneapolis
This is actually normal, and often a good sign.
As you lose weight:
Your body becomes more efficient
Hunger hormones can increase
Your appetite recalibrates
The solution isn’t to ignore hunger; it’s to manage it smarter.
Protein intake, fiber, hydration, and meal timing usually solve this without needing drastic calorie cuts. Hunger doesn’t mean failure; it means your body is adapting.
Fit Trivia: Which 80s TV star became a fitness icon despite having no formal athletic background?

Answer: Richard Simmons! Richard Simmons helped millions get active through approachable, inclusive fitness—proving that consistency and enthusiasm matter more than genetics or athletic pedigree. Movement is for everyone.
