The Testosterone Trap: Are You Chasing The Wrong Fix?

Low testosterone is a real issue for many men over 40. But jumping straight to TRT or supplements without addressing why your T is tanking can be a trap.

Here’s what’s often missed:

  • Body fat increases aromatase, the enzyme that converts testosterone into estrogen.

  • Poor sleep and high stress spike cortisol, which suppresses testosterone.

  • Lack of strength training means your body isn’t being told it needs testosterone in the first place.

Before you reach for a prescription, make sure you’ve locked in:

  • Lifting heavy 3–4x/week

  • Sleeping 7–8 hours

  • Lowering sugar and alcohol

  • Getting enough zinc, magnesium, and healthy fats

Raise your lifestyle first—and your testosterone often follows.

FROM RYAN’S DESK

Excuses are easy. Effort is rare. Don’t wait for the perfect moment; create progress with what you have. Excuses slow you down; effort pushes you forward. Be the guy who chooses action over apology. That’s where breakthroughs happen.

Mindset Shift: When "BUSY" Becomes Your Excuse, You Lose By Default

Every time you say “I’m too busy” to take care of yourself, here’s what your brain hears:

“My health isn’t a priority.”

You will be busy this week. So let’s stop pretending next week will be different.

Try this instead:

  • Schedule your workouts like work meetings.

  • Batch prep two meals in 20 minutes today.

  • Take 5 minutes to walk and breathe after your most stressful meeting.

Busy is real. But so is burnout. Choose wisely.

Question from Our Readers:

“What’s the best nighttime snack that won’t wreck fat loss?”

– Marcus, 45, Jacksonville, FL

Great question, Marcus.

Nighttime cravings usually come from low protein during the day or emotional stress.

If you truly need something, go for:

  • A casein shake (or Greek yogurt if tolerated): slow-digesting and satisfying

  • Turkey roll-ups or hard-boiled eggs: high protein, low carb

  • A few almonds with a warm tea: calming and filling

Just avoid sugar and carbs close to bed — they spike blood sugar and can disrupt sleep.

Fit Trivia: Which 80s action star once held a Guinness World Record for most pull-ups in 60 seconds?

Answer: Sylvester Stallone! While training for Rocky II, Stallone set the record for 23 pull-ups in one minute. He later broke it with 24. Not bad for a guy who wrote the first Rocky script in three days and bet everything on playing the lead.
